Security Message: Nationwide Protests Scheduled for September 1, 2016
The U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam alerts
U.S. citizens that opposition political leaders have called for a
nationwide day of protest currently scheduled for September 1, 2016, but
may continue for more than one day.
While U.S. citizens have not been
specifically targeted in past demonstrations, we urge you to exercise
caution and stay current with media coverage of local events.
Even demonstrations intended to be
peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid
areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in
the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
